Angel

We all enter and leave through doors we never knew and cannot foresee. What we leave in the rooms of our lives in between is what marks us and weighs the balance of how we loved and how much we were loved.

Many, many rooms in many, many lives felt the love of this angel.

You left us with no warning,

Without saying goodbye,

No festival parting hug

No cheeky cheerio

No, see you later

Not even a silly high five.

You slipped through our fingers,

Like mist on the sea,

Our hearts carved wide open,

Bereft and left, forever to bleed.

Yes, you left without warning,

But you left us so much.

Precious memories you gave us

Will remain here to save us,

Right here to remind us,

Of your tender touch.

Of your warm teas in the morning,

And you always being on hand,

With a shoulder to cry on

Or to help out a band.

Then there’s Kerrie’s knickers you stole,

And the honour you gave us,

With a share of your soul.

That great golden glory

That we’ll miss till our end,

Rest easy you angel,

Thanks for being our friend.
