Today’s prompt, to take a proverb and challenge it somehow.

Books with dull covers, do they make for good lovers?
Your adage suggests that I should not assess,
Yet how can I guess if he’ll pass my test,
That is shallow at best, but still raises my chest?

By whose rules should I judge if not mine?
What makes them less superior to thine?
Am I nouveaux to others’ grand wine?
Ah! Drink wine not labels, says Amerine.

In an age when nothing seems true,
How can I do as you say, but not as you do?
Where was my invite to party with you?
With these maxims I think I am through.
