Solo solar system

Napowrimo April 11th, 2022

Today’s prompt, to write about something large. I chose the largest thing I’ve ever known

It begins, exquisitely, with a deft touch of the serene.
A soft, white flax seed that floats into view,
A glossed green acorn dropping into a dusk-dark still pool,
And from there, it germinates and grows.

One perfect ripple inside a ripple, inside a ripple,
Each heartbeat pulsing the former first world outward,
Ever outward, into space, expanding unrelentingly,
Till the wane begins.

Then the galaxy explodes its vacuum from within.
One step for a very long journey, but where to begin?
Tranquil thunder roars, filling every atom of space,
Silence is the only sound to echo in this place.

A solo solar system.

  1. I love the way your poems begins serenely and gently and ends with silence, and used movement and sound in between, especially the amazing oxymoron ‘tranquil thunder ‘.

  2. There’s almost an echo — but a liquid floating echo here: “One perfect ripple inside a ripple, inside a ripple,
Each heartbeat pulsing the former first world outward,
Ever outward, into space, expanding unrelentingly,” Lovely hit to the senses

This is stunning imagery. I especially like the line, ‘ripple inside a ripple, inside a ripple’ – just saying it sounds like a ‘silent echo’.

    1. Thanks for taking the time to contribute to my page. When I wrote that line I only had the one repetition, then it struck me, we are pushing line after line after line, so add another one. It felt right and I’m glad it struck a chord with you.
