Our challenge: to write, without consulting the book, a poem that recounts the plot, or some portion of the plot, of a novel that you remember having liked but that you haven’t read in a long time.
I chose my all-time favourite novel, Catch 22
From the first breath of the first words – I was hooked.
Mouth gaping like a gawping fish,
I gasped in delight.
What more miracles of mirth might,
Unfold in these pages?
Fixed in place, lost in this place, I was in love,
As besotted as Yossarian was with his priest.
Bound to adoration at first sight.
With no respite, I was given, betrothed, beguiled,
Hessler took me down the aisle.
We have been happily married ever since.
