Sunday, a day of rest and contemplation – well it would be if I was not awake at 5am!
Hey ho; at least it gives me time to respond to NAPOWRIMO.
Today, our challenge is to write a poem titled “Wish You Were Here” that takes its inspiration from the idea of a postcard. Consistent with the abbreviated format of a postcard, our poem should be short, and should play with the idea of travel, distance, or sightseeing.
How could I resist such an invitation to have some intertextual fun given the title? If the photo does not give it away instantly, it may help you to look it up, or better still, go buy the album.
Hey Syd, how ya keeping man?
I thought I’d drop you a line,
See how ya getting on.
It’s been such a long time.
I went on a trip, took me a stroll,
Down that place you mentioned,
The old fish bowl?
You can still feel the tension.
I keep thinking about when we were young.
All the things we said,
All the things we done.
Life’s short, then you’re dead.
Miss you man…
oh this is so good..i love this

I’m glad you enjoyed it Michelle. I guess you need to know to know, but if you do, then, well, it should mean something to you – I hope.

I like the way you emulated the style of Pink Floyd’s lyrics! Syd Barrett’s been gone a long time now, but at least some of us remember him. ‘Wish You Were Here’ is one of my favourite tracks.
