Rest in piece

Today’s prompt, to write a poem about two incongruous things engaged in a fight did not inspire me at first; I’m too tired of all the fighting going on to enjoy writing about it. I think my responses below explain why

….

Politics; “let’s fight!”
Ennui; “I can’t be bothered.”
Apathy; “I win”.
….

Soon I will be gone,
Sooner than you think is right
All lost in a blink.

….

Children bleed for Gods,
Loveless leaders plead for war,
They rest in pieces.

….

“Come on. Stand up. Let’s have you”
Banged the kettle drum of War.

Brash brass gleamed and trumpeted,
“Be proud, defend these shores.”

The tartan bag of wind and pipes just sighed
“There’s nothing left worth fighting for,”

….

  1. Can relate, unfortunately. Sometimes the news is just too much — and I feel lucky-lonely-guilty to be able to tune it out. Thank goodness for poetry and, more specifically, for your poem today lighting a way through despite the doom. Write on, Graham!

  2. I don’t know how vivid a poet can write before this madness stops. Apathy grooming is trending…
