Employment Opportunity

Our optional prompt for today is to write a poem based on the “Proust Questionnaire,” a set of questions drawn from Victorian-era parlour games, and adapted by modern interviewers. We could choose to answer the whole questionnaire, and then write a poem based on our answers, answer just a few, or just write a poem that’s based on the questions. We could even write a poem in the form of an entirely new Proust Questionnaire.

I looked at Proust’s original questions and answers and was struck by the following paraphrased question and response:

My favourite occupation would be daydreaming, writing verse and loving

So, I took my lead from that and philosophised on it to come up with an employment opportunity for everyone that has been inspired by at least one other poet this month. If the hat fits, wear it.

….

Can you imagine;
Being paid to daydream, to write and to love?
It’s a job well-worth having,
When all your colleagues are doves.
Where your contract is fixed,
And your nine-to-five,
Fills you with wonder,
Makes each sense come alive.
Where your employment depends on,
Free joyously giving,
The hugs and cuddles,
That make live worth living.

What a tender vocation!
Are you interested?

Could you possibly fancy;
The bliss that is this?
Not loathing your rota,
Never phoning in sick.
Always failing to fear,
Those years that you lost,
Not shedding your tears,
On the words of your boss.
Not dreaming of Friday,
But adoring each day.
And laughing at the Taxman,
As you view your payslip,
Saying dues settled in petals
Of silk red Tulips.

Such a glorious profession!
Are you qualified?

Embrace in your mind;
This, your rat-race task.
To be paid in lush kisses,
And for no holiday’s ask,
Where your desk is your bedroom,
The street, beach and park,
And your heart sings in the mornings,
Like a love drunken Lark.
And when it comes to your pension,
There’s a smile on your face,
For every contribution,
Was your every embrace.

Applications are currently being accepted. Location; worldwide.
