Sue Brickay’s gift

April 21, Napowrimo 2026. Three weeks in and our daily test is to play around with the theme of our or other’s nicknames. I very rarely went by a pseudonym and loathe it when anyone shortens my given name – I was given it for a reason and that reason is good enough for me.

I chose instead to play around with the idea of how words can be changed and how changed names can be unwanted using a well-known idiom for a giggle with a semi-serious bent added. See if you can spot it

So, Sue Brickay,
Your gift, a new Monica
For Sue Dough-Nhim.
But like this rhyme
It fitted knot.

Twigs with pebbles
Might possibly,
The limbs of me,
Snap into kindling.
Mais, your
Nome de plume,
Pure ineffectual
Futility.

No harm done.

Maybe.
