NaPoWriMo 2023, Day 12
Today we were challenged to write a poem that interrogates (our) own writing process and the motivations (we) have for writing, and the motivations (we) ascribe to readers. I really do not like poetry that talks about itself or the author, but NaPoWriMo is a month-long workshop and I want to stay the distance, so I went for it. I hope you enjoy.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
In the 30 days of April,
My writing gives to me,
A chance to reflect on,
What my poetry should be.
But now I’m being prompted,
To commit the biggest sin,
To talk about “I Poet,”
And place myself within,
The confines of my scribbling,
And address my goals and aims,
Well, I do not dream of fortunes,
Or brew thoughts of writeful fame.
I do lure folk to listen
And ask them to “take a look”.
Who knows, maybe one day
I might even write a book!
With all the words I’ve written,
And all the lines I’ve wrote,
When that one connects with someone,
Then THAT really floats my boat.
Boats that float, float my boat — and your poem “floats!” (BTW, dear, what the hmhm about “skimmingtons? I Googled but I think you must have read a different poem. Mine has nothing to do with 18th century adultery.)

By “charivari” I just meant a series of discordant noises… but thank you, very much, for your interesting take!
