NaPoWriMo 2023, Day 18
Today we were challenged to write an abecedarian poem – a poem in which the word choice follows the words/order of the alphabet. I purposefully wrote mine as a cycle and dedicate it to two people I hope will take some comfort from the words at a very tough time
……………………………………
Zero is now the pain felt by the one that
Always loved you. Loved you
Because she could. Because she
Cared in a way only she could. And
Did for all the years she carried you,
Eventually to put you down, placing your two tiny
Feet firmly on the
Ground. Her heart
Handing you the two great gifts of
Independence and the strength to bring
Joy into a sometimes tired world that
Keeps testing us with lessons of
Love in the face of intense, burning sorrow.
Mothers, what would we be without them?
Nature brings us forth
Out of warm wombs, then
Quietly waits for our
Race to be run, for our
Sleep of peace to resume, for
Time to tick away until we hear,
Uttered though tears that flow like tides, softly said
Vows at our bedside.
“We will always love you.”
XX. Thank you,
Your children.
This is so moving, Graham. I am sure your friends will find solace in your heartfelt words.

This is so beautiful Graham– like the hug your friends are in need of right now.
Serendipitously, today’s prompt guided me to my mother too.

How absolutely fitting to begin with “the end” — and done so tenderly and lovingly. A gem.
